Four IWF Members were mentioned in an article in the South African newspaper BD Live this week in an article titled, “Much Still to be Done to Empower Women.”
IWF Members Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Entity for Gender Equality & Empowerment for Women, Gill Marcus, Governor, Reserve Bank of South Africa, Maria Ramos, Group Chief Executive, Barclays Africa Group Ltd and Khanyisile Kweyama, CEO Business Unity SA were each identified in the article as women making an impact in leadership within South African business and politics.
Two of the initiatives mentioned in the article are spearheaded by IWF South Africa member Khanyisile Kweyama through her company Business Unity SA. The first of these initiatives is the Women in Business Master Class Series aimed at creating a platform for women business leaders to share their experience with other women entrepreneurs. The second is the Women on Board Director Development Training which seeks to advance women’s participation on the boards of companies.
Kweyama appeared on the panel for the “Legacy of the Mine”: Mineral Wealth’s Impact on Societal Change” breakout session at the 2015 IWF World Cornerstone Conference in South Africa in May. She assumed the role of CEO of Business Unity SA in January 2015, and also serves as a non-executive Director of Anglo American Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore Limited.
