IWF Canada member Lia Grimanis, the President and Founder of Up With Women , a non-profit organization dedicated to helping recently homeless and at-risk women to build sustainable, prosperous careers and businesses, received the prestigious Women of Worth Honor from L’Oréal Paris last week.
Lia’s inspiring ascent begins when she was 16 years old, running away from an abusive home and ending up homeless. While in the shelter, she made a decision to transform her situation, to become a leader and to return to help others like her. Today, she is a trailblazer in the global movement to help at-risk homeless women prosper in business. Through their uniquely successful model, her organization engages high-level professionals in the community to assist in providing clients with a year-long program which aims to remove them from the cycles of poverty forever. By the end of that year, 70 per cent of the clients are working and close to 50 per cent start their own business venture.
The Women of Worth signature philanthropic program embodies the L’Oréal Paris belief that ‘Every Woman Is Worth It’ by elevating and celebrating women who find beauty in giving back.
