IWF Hong Kong, SAR member Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBM, GBS, JP was elected this week to lead her city as its Chief Executive. She was previously the Chief Secretary under the Leung Chun-ying administration in 2012.
She is the first woman elected to lead Hong Kong, and previously headed the Task Force on Constitutional Development. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is the leader of the SAR and head of the Government of Hong Kong.
She was previously honored with the Gold Bauhinia Star, the highest ranking awarded by her government, and was made an Officier de la Légion d’Honneur by the French Government in 2015. During her career in public service, she has built expertise in economic development, urban renewal, social security and constitutional reform. Before her career in government, Lam was a social worker devoted to serving at-risk Chinese populations, earning a Fulbright Fellowship.
In her victory speech, the Chief Executive said, “The work of uniting society and moving forward begins now.”
