IWF South Africa member Totsie Memela has been selected as a judge for the 2015 Elle Boss Awards. The rewards recognize female businesswomen who are outstanding visionaries and leaders, between the ages of 25-45 and with at least three years of demonstrated success in business. One can enter in either the corporate or entrepreneur category and winners will be flown to attend the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Business Women Award event hosted by Veuve Clicquot in Reims, France.
Totsie Memela is the CEO of Eduloan – a medium-sized company that improves people’s lives through financial access to Education. The company was established in 1996 and has provided R4.27billion in loans since its establishment to 2015. These loans predominantly support individuals who are formally employed but are not poor enough for government bursary funding and whose low income thresholds deny them access to traditional banking products. Ms. Memela is also a member of the Institute of Directors. She serves as Chairman of Memela Pratt and Associates. Ms. Memela has been extensively involved in community and professional organizations.
Ms. Memela mentors young leaders through the IWFSA’s fellowship programme, and participates in environments that grant access to disadvantaged communities. Ms. Memela began her career in 1978 whilst in exile in Swaziland. She later moved to Zimbabwe in 1988 to further her studies, there she completed her Master’s degree. She returned to South Africa in 1991 to work in the ANC Secretary General’s office. Ms. Memela has been in the financial services sector for over 22years, both with private and public financial institutions. She took the helm at Eduloan in October 2010. Her role as CEO allows her to fulfil her passion of providing access to opportunities and improving the lives of our people in the continent.
