JoAnne Epps, President of IWF Pennsylvania recently received a 2016 Spirit of Excellence Award from the American Bar Association (ABA) and delivered an inspired and passionate speech on diversity while accepting the honor.
“My point is that when we think about ‘other’, compared to the person next to us, we are all an ‘other,’ we are all different, we are all diverse.. implicit bias is everywhere and the only way we can confront implicit bias is awareness,” said Epps.
JoAnne Epps is the Dean of Temple University Law School where she has been a professor of law for 30 years. Prior, she served as the Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia and Deputy City Attorney in Los Angeles. A champion for women and minorities in the profession of law, Epps was awarded the 2014 Justice Sonia Sotomayor Diversity Award as well as the 2009 Sandra Day O’Connor Award. She has served as President of IWF Pennsylvania since 2013.
