Wendy Ackerman of IWF South Africa was recently honored with the All Africa Philanthropist of the Year Award from the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA). The event, in its fifth year, was held in partnership with CNBC Africa in Sandton City on November 13th. Regional awards preceded the main event, which recognized the best of the best in business from across Africa.
The All Africa Philanthropist of the Year Award recognizes those who seek to promote the welfare of others and encourage more benevolence on the continent. In her speech Ackerman said, ‘The future, I am quite sure, is Africa.” Ackerman – who is Non Executive Director of Pick N’ Pay Holdings Limited – was recognized for her leadership with the Ackerman Foundation. The Ackerman Foundation promotes sustainable development, community farming, education, and a breadth of initiatives which uplift the quality of life of marginalized and disadvantaged emerging entrepreneurs.
Also in attendance from IWF South Africa was Wendy Applebaum, who was recently awarded Forbes Woman Africa Business Woman of the Year. Forbes Woman Africa partnered with AABLA to produce the event.
