The International Women’s Forum (IWF) is pleased to announce the creation of the Widener IWF Alabama Fellows Scholarship Fund. The fund was established with an initial commitment of $100,000, with a lead gift from Peri Widener, former IWF Alabama President and CEO of the GloBil Consulting Group, and contributions from IWF members from throughout Alabama. The fund will provide scholarships for high potential women leaders from the state of Alabama to participate in the IWF Leadership Fellows Program.
This joint effort is led by Ms. Widener and grew out of the strategic vision and leadership of LaFreeda Jordan, IWF Alabama member and Chief External Affairs Officer for the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
The IWF Leadership Fellows Program was launched in 1994 with seed-funding from the U.S. Labor Department as a direct result of the Glass Ceiling Commission and annually convenes approximately 35 Fellows from around the world for a total of 20 days. Featuring academic partnerships with Harvard Business School and INSEAD, the program offers customized leadership training for high-achieving women leaders on their path to the C-suite.
“I am passionate about women’s leadership and have committed my life and philanthropy to supporting women and girls at every level. The IWF Leadership Fellows Program supports women as they pursue the highest level of leadership, and it is the perfect complement to my work with the Widener Global Leaders Program I founded at Wichita State and my work with the Girl Scouts of America. I firmly believe IWF and its 7,500 members around the world are a force multiplier, giving women the support needed to be successful leaders in every sector,” said Ms. Widener.
“As a former Fellow, I want to thank Peri, LaFreeda, and IWF Alabama for their leadership in supporting IWF’s mission of advancing women’s leadership and championing equality worldwide. I am confident that this model can be replicated around the globe,” said Helen Rule, President of the IWF Global Board of Directors and former IWF Australia President.
The International Women’s Forum (IWF) is an invitation-only network of the most accomplished women in the world. IWF connects women leaders across every professional sector in support of each other and the common mission of advancing women’s leadership and championing equality worldwide. Established in New York City in 1974, today IWF is comprised of over 7,500 preeminent women leaders in 33 countries and 74 local Forums. IWF is the only organization of this scale that builds significant relationships between C-level women across countries and careers.
