Happy International Women’s Day! IWF is built on the strength of our local Forums which, in turn, offer their members the IWF gateway to a world of women’s leadership through access to more than 7,800 members around the world and our unrivaled quality of conferences and programs. For International Women’s Day, local Forums brought members together to celebrate women’s leadership. Below are event highlights in honor of this special day.
4th Annual International Women’s Day
IWF Georgia honored International Women’s Day for the fourth year in a row with an outstanding program highlighting extraordinary women who are tackling some of the most difficult issues of our day. The program provided an opportunity for leaders from around Georgia and beyond to hear from experts on topics like the climate crisis, how the ground shifted for women in 2022, and the care economy.
Speakers included Beatrice Duncan, Policy Advisor at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women; Maria Flora, Director of the American University Care Economy Project; Staci Fox, President & CEO of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute; Diana Rodriguez Franco, Secretary of Women for the city of Bogota, Columbia; Pat Mitchell, author, journalist, editorial director of TEDWomen; Michelle Nunn, CEO of CARE USA; Dr. Jennifer Olsen, CEO of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers; Mary Ziegler, Professor of Law, UC Davis Law; and emcee Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center.
Film Screening: Space, Hope, and Charity
For International Women’s Day IWF Oregon members joined a special panel discussion and movie screening of the new independent documentary film: Space, Hope, and Charity about Charity Woodrum, a young woman from rural Oregon whose dream of becoming an astrophysicist is nearly derailed when she suffers a devastating tragedy.
The film’s featured subject – rising star Charity Woodrum, and her professor, as well as IWF Massachusetts member and Former NASA Astronaut Cady Coleman, and the film director, participated in the panel discussion about women in science and art. The panel was moderated by IWF Oregon member and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry President & CEO Erin Graham.
25th Anniversary Gala & Fundraising Dinner
IWF salutes our Forums that are celebrating anniversaries this year. One such Forum is IWF Singapore, who is celebrating 25 years as a Forum. They celebrated their silver jubilee with a charity gala dinner on March 7, as a way to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event hosted Singapore’s President, Halimah Yacob, as their Guest of Honor.
The proceeds of the dinner will go toward the IWF Singapore Education Grants Fund for Young Women, which supports women as they pursue higher education in one of the ten Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore.
