Leah Burns is an epidemiologist and Senior Director of Real World Evidence (RWE) Strategy at Bristol Myers-Squibb. Real world evidence is evidence derived from data collected during the practice of routine healthcare versus in a clinical trial setting. This type of data complements clinical trial data to provide a deeper understanding of population health. She oversees a team of scientists focused on strategic, scientific, and policy consultation for complex RWE programs. She leads several enterprise level initiatives focused on RWE strategy, policy, data platforms, and research governance. She is an industry representative and invited speaker for national and international RWE regulatory policy initiatives and pragmatic study designs that include both clinical trial and real-world data.

Leah holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University and is widely published in peer reviewed medical journals with a concentration on policy, methods, and tools to facilitate RWE for clinical development, regulatory use, and pharmacodiagnostics. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two teenage boys, and dog. Her favorite pastimes are skiing, hiking, cooking, and reading.
